Value & Access

Achieving successful launch, reimbursement and uptake of new therapeutics and technologies

We support pharmaceutical, biotech and medtech companies in demonstrating value, securing reimbursement and bringing treatments successfully to market. From early commercial input through to evaluation and reimbursement, our team has delivered inside industry, government and health systems.

The challenge

Demonstrating value in an increasingly demanding environment

Getting a new medicine to market has never been more demanding. Health technology assessment (HTA) bodies, national payers and integrated health systems around the world apply increasingly rigorous evidence standards. Pricing negotiations are more complex. The window between regulatory approval and meaningful commercial uptake is narrowing - and the cost of getting the access strategy wrong from the start has never been higher.

Pharmaceutical, biotech and medtech companies are under mounting pressure to build stronger evidence packages, engage payers earlier, and create value narratives that hold up under scrutiny - across multiple markets, simultaneously.

Our approach

Unrivalled expertise, built from deep experience

Our Value & Access team is led by people who have held executive roles in industry and health systems.

Berkeley Greenwood has over 30 years of experience and has supported more than 600 products through successful NICE evaluation. Blake Dark spent 25 years in industry before serving as the NHS's chief negotiator with the pharmaceutical sector. Rob Kettell has held senior positions at HM Treasury, DHSC and NHS England on life sciences policy and negotiation. Professor Peter Clark is a global clinical leader in oncology and former Chair of the NHS Cancer Drugs Fund. That depth of direct experience shapes every engagement.

We apply it practically — from defining your value proposition and shaping your evidence strategy to managing HTA submissions and navigating commercial negotiations with payers and health systems. Our advice is candid, strategic and grounded in what actually works.

What we do

Market access and value strategy across the full innovation lifecycle

Our support spans the complete market access value chain — from early stage commercial input and pipeline reviews through to reimbursement, launch and uptake. We provide both strategic advice and hands-on technical delivery.

Pipeline reviews

Clinical, commercial and healthcare system assessment across a portfolio — identifying where to invest and how to sequence.

Launch strategy

Assessment of payer evidence requirements and commercial expectations, and development of a multi-market pricing and access strategy taking account of international reference pricing dynamics.

HTA submission

End-to-end management of technology appraisals — from scoping
and dossier development through to committee and appeal.

Commercial negotiation

Preparation and support for payer commercial negotiations or procurement exercises — drawing on direct experience of how this engagement works from both sides.

Adoption and uptake

Building the clinical case for adoption, engaging local commissioners, and developing the tools that field teams need to drive usage across health systems.

how we work

From value strategy to successful market uptake

We begin where your evidence and commercial strategy intersect — identifying the gaps, stress-testing the assumptions, and building the foundations that a successful reimbursement case requires. Our team stays with you through the process, not just the planning.

0

Stress test your value proposition

We bring a highly experienced clinical and health system perspective to your pipeline and launch decisions: ensuring a robust value story and supporting effective prioritisation.

0

Support effective payer engagement

We ensure you are prepared to engage effectively through the market access process: drawing on our deep experience across industry, HTA, and payer organisations to coach and support you through the reimbursement system.

0

Develop bespoke commercial strategies

We develop innovative commercial models to unlock payer negotiation, support HTA approvals, and maintain lifecycle value: finding creative solutions which are grounded in our experience of heath system realities.

0

Ensure local & lasting access

National reimbursement is just the start. We help navigate local health systems, engaging commissioners and key partners to turn decisions into real-world patient access.

The outcome

Faster access. Stronger reimbursement. Lasting impact.

Our clients describe our advice as unmatched in terms of understanding government and NHS system thinking. That's not coincidence — it's the result of building a team that has operated at the highest levels of the systems our clients are trying to navigate.

Challenging the investment case for a market-leading healthcare advisory business

A strategic buyer considering the acquisition of a specialist healthcare advisory business needed an independent assessment of the target’s growth prospects and the rate of return on investment. Newmarket Strategy built a bottom-up view of the market, tested the target’s revenue assumptions and competitive position, and concluded that achievable revenues were materially below those assumed in the investment case and would not support the returns being targeted.
