Securing a landmark strategic partnership with the UK government

Snapshot
At a glance
We helped a major pharmaceutical company win a highly competitive landmark strategic partnership with the UK government to transform how a major disease is prevented, diagnosed and treated.
Client
A major pharmaceutical company, well established both in the UK and globally.
Challenge
The client was competing to secure a strategic partnership which the UK government had committed to forming each year with leading life sciences companies as part of its Life Sciences Sector Plan. In a highly competitive process, they needed to work out what their offer would be and make a compelling case for why they should be the chosen partner.
Support
We worked with the client from the outset, helping them to identify what their offer could be, generating and stress-testing ideas across their full portfolio, aligning stakeholders internally, cultivating relationships with government and building a proposal that won a competitive government process.
Outcome
The client secured a landmark strategic partnership with the UK government.
The challenge
Transforming disease pathways in collaboration with government
The offer needed to deliver meaningfully for patients, align with government priorities, and bring something new to the system. It also needed buy-in from across the company and its leadership team.
Our approach
From idea generation to developing a proposal
We worked with the client across multiple workshops and brought in different teams to generate ideas, stress-test options, and prioritise initiatives. The result was a realistic but ambitious proposal that would deliver meaningful benefits for patients and also help the government advance its key health priorities, including improving productivity and reducing health inequalities.
- Worked with the client to identify and assess what they could offer across their full portfolio as the basis of their partnership proposal
- Developed the priority use cases, delivery mechanisms and opportunities to optimise existing clinical pathways, running multiple workshops with teams across the organisation to stress-test and prioritise ideas and build alignment across the organisation and its leadership
- Developed a proposal focused on improving patient outcomes through initiatives not already being delivered in the system, articulating its value in terms of economic growth, productivity and reducing health inequalities
The outcome
Securing a partnership
The client secured a strategic partnership with the UK government to transform the lives of patients living with a major disease.
